Angel Flight is a charity organisation that was the initiative of Bill Bristow in April 2003. He is a businessman, experienced pilot and the winner of Australia of the Year Award - Queensland 2005.
The charity coordinates non-emergency flights to help country people trying to deal with the bad health, poor finances and daunting distance. All flights are free and may involve patients travelling to medical facilities anywhere in Australia.
Angel Flight fills the gap between aero medical providers such as Care Flight and the Royal Flying Doctor Service and the normal modes of transport as self driving or public transport. Transport is via volunteer private aircraft.
Volunteer pilots donate their aircraft, time, skills and some costs to allow patients to travel in comfort from rural and regional towns to major towns and cities in the shortest time as practical. Both the pilot and aircraft must meet the stringent requirements of CASA.
"Earth Angels" are the support on the ground and help with car transport for airport/hospital transfers. They also help with fundraising, running of information booths at air shows.
I volunteer with this charity as a "Earth Angel".
